Nik and Jules (Bening and Moore) are a happily married couple raising their teenaged kids in Southern California. Problems start when 15 year old Laser presses his 18 year old sister, Jodi, into helping to find their biological father, both having been conceived by artificial insemination. The entry of Paul into their life causes them all to define and re-define their family ties.
